Jacques de Jongh death: Australian musician and Hush rocker dies as tributes flow

Aussie rocker and musician Jacques de Jongh has died, it has been reported.

Music publication Noise 11 reported the sad news, revealing he died in Melbourne after suffering “poor health”.

De Jongh was known for his time in the ’70s glam rock band Hush, as a rhythm guitarist, and for his time playing with Australian singer John Paul Young.

No official cause of death has been reported.

Ian Lovell told Noise11 that the musician worked as a chef and even had his own restaurant in recent years, despite his successful music career.

“He also ran a rehearsal studio and helped all sorts of bands. He was very active up until his poor health stopped him working,” Lovell told the publication.

Sydney band Hush, known for hit songs including Get Rocked and covers including Bony Maronie, had considerable success back in the 1970s.

The group formed in 1971 but went their separate ways in 1977. 

Members included frontman Keith Lamb and guitarist Les Gock.

Paul Young and his band found huge success with his hit song Love Is In the Air in 1978.

Tributes are flowing for de Jongh on Facebook, with Gary Turner writing that the late musician was a friend, saying: “Rest in peace my friend. Condolences to Selena, Shirley and family.”

“Wonderful music. Very sad,” another wrote under the public Facebook post.
