Mission Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One is an upcoming American action spy film helmed by Christopher McQuarrie, who serves as the writer, producer, and director. The movie serves as a sequel to Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) and stands as the seventh installment in the renowned Mission: Impossible film series. The film features a star-studded cast including Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny.

In January 2019, Cruise made an official announcement stating that the seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible films would be shot consecutively, with McQuarrie handling the writing and directing duties for both movies. Subsequently, the returning and new cast members were revealed, and Lorne Balfe, the composer behind the musical score for Fallout, was brought back to compose the film’s music.

Principal photography commenced in Italy in February 2020; however, production was abruptly halted due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming eventually resumed later that year and wrapped up in September 2021, with additional shooting locations including Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. Notably, Bad Robot Productions, which was involved in the production of the previous three films, did not participate in this installment.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is slated for release in the United States on July 12, 2023, through Paramount Pictures. The cast includes Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, the leader of a team of operatives within the IMF.

Hayley Atwell portrays the character of Grace, described by Christopher McQuarrie as a “destructive force of nature,” while Atwell herself explains that her character’s loyalties are “somewhat ambiguous.” Ving Rhames reprises his role as Luther Stickell, an IMF computer technician and Hunt’s closest friend. Simon Pegg returns as Benji Dunn, an IMF technical field agent and a member of Hunt’s team.

Rebecca Ferguson appears as Ilsa Faust, a former MI6 agent who has allied with Hunt’s team in previous installments, namely Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018). Vanessa Kirby takes on the role of Alanna Mitsopolis, a black-market arms dealer known as the White Widow. Alanna is the daughter of Max, an arms dealer originally portrayed by Vanessa Redgrave in the first film. Henry Czerny reprises the character of Eugene Kittridge, the former director of the IMF, last seen in Mission: Impossible (1996).

Moreover, Esai Morales has been cast as the primary antagonist of the film, while Shea Whigham portrays Jasper Briggs, a character tracking Ethan Hunt. Frederick Schmidt returns as Zola Mitsopolis, Alanna’s brother, and Pom Klementieff portrays the film’s secondary villain, an assassin allied with Morales’ character and actively pursuing Ethan and Grace. The movie also features Mariela Garriga, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Rob Delaney, Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, and Mark Gatiss in undisclosed roles.
