Award-winning South Korean actor Kim Sae Ron debuted as an actress at an early age. Since then, she has starred in notable movies and dramas, making a solid mark in the film industry. However, Sae Ron had stepped away from public life following a drunk driving conviction. She was recently found dead in her home in Seoul at the mere age of 24.

The late actress’ legacy features notable projects A Brand New Life, The Man from Nowhere and The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim. To celebrate her life, we take a look at her best works as a South Korean actress, that are still remembered.

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim (2021)

One of Kim Sae Ron’s last works, The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim explores high school student Ga Doo Shim’s life. Born into a family of shamans, she struggles to escape fighting evil spirits. She also takes on supernatural forces lurking in her school.

Leverage (2019)

A remake of 2008 American drama Leverage, the South Korean version explores the life of a former insurance investigator. He assembles con artists to fight corruption.  Kim Sae Ron plays the role of Go Na Byul, a skilled thief who has many physical abilities.

Ordinary People (2018)

Kim Sae Ron plays the brand Yoo Jin, who is convinced that her friend has been kidnapped. She uncovers the truth with the new contract gym teacher at a high school Ki Cheol (Ma Dong Seok). They dig deeper, only to realize that the girl’s existence is vanishing.

Secret Healer/ Mirror of the Witch (2016)

Kim Sae Ron plays a cursed princess who is raised by a shaman. She tries to break the curse with the help of a royal physician.

Snowy Road (2015)

Two girls Young Ae (Kim Sae Ron) and Jong Boon (Kim Hyang Gi) are forced into wartime servitude during the time of T Japanese occupation in Korea. The drama explores the lives of Korean “comfort women” who were treated as pawns in a chaotic situation.

Hi! School – Love On (2014)

Kim Sae Ron plays an angel in Hi! School – Love On. She accidentally falls to Earth and lives as a high school student. The complications begin when she finds herself caught between two best friends.

The Queen’s Classroom (2013)

Kim Sae Ron stars as Ha Na in a drama about a strict and mysterious teacher. The teacher’s tough love makes the students wary. The Queen’s Classroom explores themes of childhood, growth, productive schooling and development.

The Man from Nowhere (2010)

Kim Sae Ron plays the role of So Mi, a poor girl kidnapped by a drug cartel. The drama begins as her neighbour, played Won Bin, goes to hell and beyond to rescue her.

A Brand New Life (2009)

Kim Sae Ron made her acting debut with A Brand New Life. She played the role of Jin Hee, an abandoned girl at an orphanage. The movie became extremely successful and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
